An International Driving Permit is a translation of your driver’s license into various languages, including Arabic, Spanish, and English. It’s used to translate your driver’s license into a language understood by your destination country. It is by no means a replacement for your original driver’s license or a legal document such as a passport. This document is not valid if you do not have your original driver’s license with you. Some countries, car rental agencies, insurance companies, and/or traffic authorities may request to see this document when you are abroad, so it is handy to have an International Driving Permit on hand. On the other hand, it is very important that you always have and present your original driver’s license, along with the translation when requested.
